Investigation into the murder of a banker, Adindu Ohamara, who was stabbed to death by his alleged homosexual lover in Akoka, Bariga Local Council Area of Lagos State has started, the Lagos State Police Command has said.

It was gathered that the deceased banker, who resides in a three-bedroom flat in Akoka with his elder sister and one Collins, an undergraduate of the University of Lagos was stabbed repeatedly by his lover.

It was learnt that trouble started for Ohamara, who was believed to be a homosexual and fond of bringing different men, when he decided to get married due to family pressure.

According to a 2011 UNESCO report, human trafficking is ranked the third most common crime in Nigeria – after financial fraud and drug trafficking. The United Nations says at least 10 children are illegally sold every day across the country and the traffickers are seldom caught.

MAN JAILE 45 YEARS FOR STEALING AREGBESOLA'S PHONE

For stealing a N50,000 Sony Ericsson phone belonging to Governor Rauf Aregbesola, a 31-year-old Kelvin Ighodalo has been sentenced to 45-year imprisonment by an Osogbo High Court.

Ighodalo stole the phone from the pocket of Aregbesola on November 27, 2010, when the governor was being inaugurated at Government Technical College, Osogbo.

Justice Oyejide Falola, who heard the case, found Ighodalo guilty on six counts, which included conspiracy, stealing and fraud.

FASHOLA BUILDS FIRST SUSPENSION BRIDGE IN LAGOS

The 1.358km bridge, which will link Ikoyi (Alexander Street) to Lekki (Admiralty Way), cost about N29 billion to build and a toll will be collected to recoup the investment. 

The link bridge was built by Julius Berger.

Black Face is also going to be big. Everybody seems to be supporting him financially, and it takes a lot for people to believe in you. Black Face wrote almost all the songs we had in our first album, so, he has potentials. He has management challenges and people that believe in him. We must be frank, we have some junk music in the industry but they sell because they have financial backups to pay for publicity and other things. These days, if you are bringing out an album, it has to be well packaged, it has to generate noise. I’m working on something with him to make sure he bounces back.

SCHOOL BUILDING COLLAPSES DURING WAEC KILLING 3 AND WOUNDING OVER 200

3 pupils, including a girl, were killed and hundreds injured on Wednesday when a building in which they were writing the West African Examination Council School Certificate examination (WASCE) collapsed on them.
The incident occurred in Alpha Academy, a private secondary school in Mararaba, Donga Local Government Area of Taraba State.

10 MATCH BAN FOR THE VAMPIRE LOUIS SUAREZ

Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has been handed a 10-match ban by the Football Association after biting the arm of Chelsea player Branislav Ivanovic during a recent Premier League game.

An FA statement said: “A three-person independent regulatory commission today upheld the FA’s claim that a suspension of three matches was clearly insufficient and the player will serve a further seven first-team matches in addition to the standard three. The suspension begins with immediate effect.”

STUDENT SENTENCED TO DEATH BY HANGING FOR STEALING N2000

An Ogwashi-Uku High Court in Delta State has sentenced a 23-year old student, Aruhor Ezekiel, to death by hanging for robbing another student of N2,000 at gunpoint.

The convict was arraigned on a four-count charge of conspiracy to commit armed robbery, armed robbery and illegal possession of firearms punishable under sections 1 (2)a and 3 (1) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act Cap R.II Vol. 14 laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

UTME MAY NOT HOLD IN TROUBLED STATES

Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board on Wednesday said the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination might not hold in troubled states in the North.

The examination, in which over 1, 735,720 candidates are expected to participate in will hold on Saturday.

Addressing journalists in Abuja, the JAMB Registrar/Chief Executive, Prof. ‘Dibu Ojerinde, said the board “may not hesitate to stop the examination if there is any security problem”.

Responding to a question on security challenges in the country, Ojerinde said, “Yesterday it was a big discussion among some agents as well as JAMB. We believe that things will be all right. You see, we believe that we will surmount the problem.

Two whistle-blowers appeared before the Senate in Abuja yesterday and admitted paying N250,000 each to secure appointments in the Ministries of Lands and Housing, Information, Works, Trade and Investment, aided principally by staff of the federal agencies.

Mrs. Rose Nkarishor Odey and Idachaba Tijani told the Senate Committee on Federal Character and Inter-Governmental Affairs that the job-for-sale racket was being allegedly spearheaded by one Juliet Egobunor and Simon Odujebe.

. On Thursday a ghastly Motor Accident occurred along Owerri Port Harcourt express road after the Army Barracks in Obinze just a few meters after the entrance of Arab Contractors Nig Ltd,  involving a Petrol Tanker and a bus carrying full load of passengers. 

Three passengers died on the spot including the driver, two died later at the hospital. As if that was not enough on Friday a Sienna coming from Owerri and heading to Imo state Polytechnic  Ohaji somersaulted severally on the same spot. The car was seriously damaged but thankfully the three occupants came out alive with praises to God. Click to continue and see more pictures.

Now first of all yesterday was kinda nice because I settled a long time rift I have been having with this girl called Chinenye or SCAA as she prefers to be called(though sounding like scar I did not in any way see her in lion king and Scar moreover was not a female lion though our school said we are all lions and lionesses, so in an ironic way, she is a lion… and my friends refer to her as ligno-cellulose- tough and difficult to digest). Now you might ask what the problem was between us? okay, taking it from her point of view I was ignoring her and all sorts of talks but that was not the crux of the ‘beef’.

OVER 25 HOUSES AND SHOPS BURNT IN IBADAN FIRE

The sad incident occurred yesterday afternoon Monday April 22nd in the Omitowoju area of Ibadan, in Oyo State. The fire started after a fully loaded petroleum tanker passing through a residential area fell off the road and spilled its 33, 000 litres of petrol. 

Over 30 houses and and at least 30 shops in the area were burnt to ashes. The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) eventually put out the fire but couldn't say for sure if anyone was killed by the fire.

NIGERIAN PROFESSOR OF PHYSICS, FRANCISCA OKEKE WINS THE L'OREAL AWARD FOR WOMEN

Francisca Okeke, a Professor of Physics at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka has recently received theL’Oreal-UNESCO for Women in Science Award for her contribution to the understanding of “daily variations of the ion currents in the upper atmosphere which may further our understanding of climate change.”

Professor Okeke was the Dean in the faculty of Physical Sciences at UNN from 2008 – 2010. She is a huge inspiration to women in the sciences and we’re really inspired by the work she is doing. In an interview with UNESCO, she was asked “What remains as the biggest challenge faced by women and young girls in science in Nigeria and what can be done to encourage young girls to consider further study in Science?”

LITTLE BOY OF 11 TRIES TO SET A MOSQUE IN ABUJA ABLAZE

An 11-year-old boy (names withheld) was yesterday afternoon arrested by the police at Nyanya Division for allegedly trying to set ablaze the Area B/C Mosque, near Customs Quarters in Nyanya, Abuja.
Imam of the mosque, Zubairu Mohammed, told newsmen that the boy had earlier set fire to one of the Mosque’s Qur’anic classroomc and did not know that a security man was sleeping inside and had noticed the fire.

He said the security man after extinguishing the fire, sighted the boy holding a gallon of fuel as well as a box of matches near the main Mosque and apprehended him.

FEDERAL GOVERNMENT RETREATS ON SCRAPPING UTME AND NECO

Federal Government has denied scrapping the National Examinations Council (NECO) and Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

The denial is an apparent backpedalling following the opposition that greeted the move, which Presidency officials disclosed to newsmen. Minister of State for Education, Mr. Nyesom Wike, who made the denial yesterday when he appeared before the Senate Committee on Education, described the purported scrapping of NECO and UTME as a rumour.

There could be hundreds of people relying on the power lines he attempted to steal and because of him the power was cut off, now they were unable to cook for their kids or do work that earns them a living. All because someone who couldn’t be bothered to earn money with honest work decided to climb on a utility pole and steal the wiring for himself.

YOUNGEST NIGERIAN PILOT- 20 YRS

A 20-year-old Nigerian, Favour Odozor, has emerged the youngest pilot with the Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) in both Nigeria and South Africa.

Mr. Odozor who graduated alongside 15 other trained pilots at the Afrika Union Aviation Academy (AUAA), Mafikeng, South Africa on Saturday was described as the new hope of the African aviation industry.
