ASUU SAYS STRIKE MIGHT CONTINUE FOR 10 YEARS

Vanguard reported this morning that:

Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Benin Zone, yesterday, expressed the resolve of members to stay at home for up to  10 years than call off the current strike action embarked upon by the union five weeks ago, if the Federal Government continues to shy away from the agreement it reached with the union in 2009.

President Goodluck Jonathan had Tuesday, approved the implementation of the recommendation of the government committee on repositioning of federal and state universities.

But the Benin Zone of ASUU described as a shame, government’s refusal to meet its end of the Memorandum of Understanding, MOU,  entered with ASUU in 2009, wherein government promised to release  N100 billion immediately out of the N500billion it agreed to pay.

The Zonal Coordinator, Benin zone of ASUU, Dr. Ighalo Sunny, said yesterday, that part of the MOU signed in 2012 between the Federal Government and the union was that government will increase the yearly budgetary allocation to the educational sector to 26 per cent among others.

POLICE AND HOODLUMS ACCUSED OF KILLING UNDERGRADUATE FRIEND

According to Punch this morning: 

Policemen attached to the Badagry Police Division, Lagos State, and some hoodlums have been accused of killing a 25-year-old undergraduate of Delta State University, Ifechukwude Nwainokpor, and his friend, identified simply as Kazeem.

An eight-minute video clip of the gruesome killing, which was made available to PUNCH Metro, showed the two victims handcuffed together. They were covered in their own blood and beaten to death with sticks. Tyres were also put round   their necks.

An irate mob could be seen in the video, shouting, “die, die, burn them, burn them.”

At some points in the video, a policeman was seen interviewing the boys. He asked who sent them (victims) to rob the area, an accusation they denied. One of the hoodlums, holding a sharp object attempted to cut off the private part of one of the victims.

Nwainokpor could be seen pleading with the hoodlums and policemen to spare his life, saying he could identify himself if given a chance. His plea, however, fell on deaf ears.

Our correspondent, who visited the family of Nwainokpor  on Tuesday, learnt that the lynching took place around 3pm on July 21, 2013 in Ajara area of Badagry, a community not far from Nwainokpor’s family home.

FABREGAS NOT GOING TO MANCHESTER UNITED. STILL STAYS AT BARCELONA

The catalan play maker which was assumed to be on sale to was announced today that there wont be a move to the english side as he remains in F.C Barcelona.

Barcelona vice-president Josep Maria Bartomeu has declared that Manchester United target Cesc Fabregas is not for sale at any price.
The Red Devils have already had two bids for the Spain midfielder rejected by the Catalan club but are willing to up their offer to €41 million in order to bring him to Old Trafford.
Bartomeu insists, however, that the Liga champions are not interested in cashing in on Fabregas and will ignore any approaches made by the Premier League club.
"United's interest for Cesc Fabregas is obvious, he's a great player but it does not bother us," Bartomeu told reporters. "It does not matter what they offer us, we are not selling him."
He added: "If there was a higher offer, would we accept it? No. We're proud that a club like that wants one of our players."
New Barca coach Gerardo Martino, meanwhile, expressed his own desire to make the former Arsenal playmaker part of his plans for the coming season.

Champions League finalists Borussia Dortmund would welcome back Japan midfielder Shinji Kagawa should the Manchester United star wish to return to the Bundesliga.

“The door is always open for Shinji,” Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke told German daily Bild.

“But at the moment, it’s not a subject up for discussion for us.”

Kagawa recently stirred the waters by telling Japanese television Foot Brain that, after an unsatisfactory first season at Old Trafford by his standards: “One day I will return to Dortmund, if they agree to it.

NEW COACH FOR BARCELONA F.C

 

Though am posting this late to you guys and for that i am sincerely sorry.... But am glad to announce to all Barcelona fans that we have a new coach in place of Tito Villanova. The coach was signed on monday 22nd of Julym, 2013 after a lot of negotiations and amongst the list of other coaches Gerardo Martino was chosen for the post of Manager of F.C Barcelona.... according to BARCELONAFC 

FC Barcelona has reached an agreement to sign Gerardo Martino as the new first team manager for the next two seasons. The agreement is still pending the drafting and signing of his contract.

The schedule for his trip to FC Barcelona, signature of his contract and official presentation will be announced in the next few hours

The man known as ‘Tata’, and the new first team boss at Barça, was born in Rosario (Argentina) on November 20, 1962. He has extensive experience of South American football, first as a player and after as a coach, most recently on the bench at Newell's Old Boys, with whom he won the 2013 Final Tournament.

This would make Gerardo Martino the fourth Argentine manager in FC Barcelona history after Roque Olsen, Helenio Herrera and César Luis Menotti.

This is good news i would say.... hope he performs well....

EBONY STATE UNIVERSITY GIRL FOUND NAKED AND DEAD IN HER HOSTEL

According to sun:

A student of Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki, Miss Miracle Eze was found dead, naked in her hostel room at the Ishieke campus of the institution.

The deceased, who was in her second year in the Department of Mass Communication, hailed from Nsukka in Enugu State. She was said to have died mysteriously in her room, nude.

Her hostel mates found her lifeless body in her room at Henriv Hostel the next day when one of them noticed that she had not come out of herroom later in the day. On inquiry after knocking on her door and there was no response, she found out that it was locked from inside.

The situation, according to the source, attracted the attention of other students, and the police who later forced the door open and found her lifeless body on her bed.

A Boko Haram commander accused of masterminding the December 25, 2011 bombing of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Madalla, Niger State, Kabiru Sokoto, on Monday informed an Abuja Federal High Court that he was tortured while being interrogated by security agents.

Testifying in his own defence at the continuation of his trial, Sokoto insisted that he was not guilty of the charges brought against him by the Federal Government.

Prosecution witnesses had informed the court that Sokoto voluntarily made a confessional statement, in which he admitted his membership, and role, in the sect.

But Sokoto on Monday told the court that he was tortured while he was interrogated.

He said he sustained injuries on his hand as a result of the torture.

He said, “They beat me until I could no longer move my hands. They beat me and asked me how I managed to escape from the police.

GOVERNOR AMAECHI DONATES $100,000 TO AILING OJB AS BIRTHDAY GIFT

"Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi has pledged to donate $100,000 to OJB. He informed the parties concerned yesterday and will be making the donation tomorrow. Finally the music producer can now undergo his kidney transplant. We thank God. Here is what Nomoreloss who heads the 'saveojb' campaign committee said below. Today also happens to be OJB's birthday.

Officials of the government reached out to us this evening, (Wednesday, June 3) promising to donate a $100,000. The presentation, they say, will be made on Friday (June 5). We are indeed grateful to the Governor and the people of Rivers State. Now we can finally have that surgical procedure.
